Hitman 3 is among the PS4 games that you can upgrade to the PS5 version.

Most PlayStation 4 games can be played on Playstation 5 thanks to the new Sony console backward compatibility feature, but some publishers allow you to update PS4 games to the brighter PS5 versions for free. This allows you to play many games with a dynamic resolution of 4K at 60 frames per second and offers shorter loading times, which improves the gaming experience.
The PS5 is out now, but has been going in and out of stock at retailers. The digital-only model costs $ 400 and the one with a disk drive costs $ 500.

Updates to your game won’t happen automatically or through a typical game update, so it’s easy to accidentally keep playing the PS4 version of a game on your new PS5. You have to go to the game page on PlayStation Network and choose to upgrade to the PS5 version, that will download the additional data needed for the next generation features.
You can also upgrade to the PS5 versions if you have a physical PS4 game, as long as you bought the PS5 with a disc drive. You will always need to use the PS4 disc to play the PS5 version; the update does not provide you with a free digital copy of the game. You will still download the PS5 update from PSN, but you won’t need a specific PS5 disc; your PS4 will become an authenticator.

If you opted for the digital-only PS5 and have a disc, you’re out of luck. There are a few more limitations and caveats:
- Some PS5 versions of current PS4 games are not yet available.
- Next-generation versions will be larger files, taking up more valuable hard drive space.
- You’ll end up with a new trophy list (the list for each version is separate).
- Game saves for some games will not carry over.
- Some game updates are only available in cross-generation packs or special editions.
