How to silence a WhatsApp chat forever

WhatsApp last week finally announced the ability to mute chat conversations in its app … forever.

Many would argue that the best way for anyone to permanently silence a conversation on WhatsApp would be to simply uninstall the app. Sure, that would be the easiest thing to do, but let’s say you don’t want to ditch WhatsApp because there are some conversations that you want to follow when it suits you.

Well, WhatsApp finally has the answer. Android, iOS and web users can now mute a chat forever, plus 8 hours and a week.

The new feature is called “Always mute” and was added to the beta version of WhatsApp on Android and iOS earlier this month. It was even discovered late last month by 9to5Google. It was not Announced by WhatsApp last week, the feature is available to everyone.

How to silence a WhatsApp chat forever

Open WhatsApp, go to your conversation list, and long press on the chat you want to mute.
Tap the mute icon at the top and select “Always.”
If you want to use the feature in the WhatsApp web client, you can find it by right-clicking on any chat and selecting “Mute notification”.

You can also use the new feature to mute individual or group chats. If you don’t have it yet, be sure to update your app. With this change, you can now mute conversations for 8 hours, a week, or “always.”

On the same front, WhatsApp is expected to launch the ability to secure chats with face unlock in the coming weeks. We are also waiting for a new “Multiple devices” function that will allow you to use up to different devices found with the same WhatsApp account.

Other good news: According to WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp web client is expected to be updated with the ability to make audio and video calls.
