Tonight, Fortnite is throwing another party in its new Party Royale mode. Last week’s Diplo show was something of a proof and proof of concept, but it’s supposed to be the “official” opening of the mode, with a concert featuring live performances by famous DJ Steve Aoki, Dillon Francis and deadmau5, starting at 9 pm ET.
But Epic also has a free gift to mark the occasion, one that appears to be a limited time offer that you don’t want to miss.
That would be the Neon Wings back bling, seen above in a screenshot of a character, and below in the promotional image released for him. Fortnite has a lot of wing-themed blings, but none like this, and I heard it actually beats with music, a rare “reactive” bling, so that’s great.
So how do you earn it? It simply appears in-game in a specific time window.
If you sign in to Fortnite, not just Party Royale, anytime from today, Friday, May 8 at 6 p.m. ET until Monday, May 11 at 10 a.m. ET will receive the free gift, which Epic describes as “perfect” for tonight’s show, probably given his musical reactivity.
As a reminder, Party Royale is the new “space to relax” in Fortnite, a new smaller island where there are no weapons to kill other players, no materials that you can build with and you cannot destroy the environment, which includes a city square, a pirate ship, race tracks and more, such as the stage of the concert to which everyone will be led tonight.
I attended the Diplo show last week, which was a bit awkward at first, but it ended up being fun. I think one main thing Epic needs to do to improve these programs is to allow more people to enter a Party Royale instance at a time. The concert area is quite large, and it looks a bit dead when you have at most, something like 18-24 players in there as it leaves a lot of empty space and feels like you are attending a real life concert. with only 20 people there. A Little bit weird.
Still, I had fun and, for three DJs for the price of one tonight, I look forward to seeing how the event has evolved in just a week. This is one of the most Metaverse-like things the game has done so far, doubly so since everyone is stuck at home in a quarantine lock and these are the only concerts anyone can attend.
I see you tonight, with the wings.
To update: Just a reminder that even though both the original shows by Dillon Francis, Steve Aoki, and deadmau5 have ended, you can still get the wings until Monday morning at 10 a.m. ET, May 11.
I really think they are one of the best back shots the game has created so far, and if you didn’t have them for this concert, you felt left out, and it looks like they’ll be a popular choice for future shows too, if I had to guess, and You know Epic is going to do a lot more of these. This is what they looked like on my Psylocke (and a friend Harley Quinn), and I think you can see their appeal.
However, I will say that I didn’t really experience the “reactive” part of them where they are supposed to be playing with the music. Maybe it’s too subtle to see, or wasn’t working as intended, but they just look great either way, so I’ll be sure to pick them up before the deadline tomorrow since we have no idea when I might be able to get them back, if ever. If they return, it may be for a cost, so don’t miss out, they’re free.
