Garchomp, one of the strongest Dragon-type Pokémon, has returned for Sword & Shield. This is where to find one in the Crown Tundra expansion.
Pokémon sword and shield has brought back many of the fan favorites for its Crown Tundra DLC, including the almighty Garchomp. This ferocious land shark was introduced during Diamond and pearl in the fourth generation and has been a threat ever since. They are said to be as fast as a jet plane and can take down obstacles with ease using their sharp severed wings.
It’s no wonder Garchomp has been a common choice for champions and competitive teams. Their massive attack stat and competent speed help them easily overwhelm their opponents, knocking them down with destructive moves like Earthquake and Outrage. Their soil type also makes them useful in sandstorm gear, along with their sand veil ability which improves their evasion while in a sandstorm. Here’s a look at where to find them in the Crown Tundra expansion.
Find and catch Garchomp in the Crown Tundra
This time around, Garchomp is actually an exclusive version. This means that it can only be found in one version of the game, in this case the Shield version, while its counterpart, Salamence, is found in the same place in the other version. Sword players who want one will have to get it in an exchange with a friend. Gible, the first form of Garchomp, is found in some starting areas of the Tunnel towards the top, which is in the northernmost part of the map. To find its evolved form, players will have to venture deeper. This whole cave is set up like a labyrinth, and Garchomp is in the deepest places. Once the cave is entered, turn right and head up the hill. From there, continue along the fork in the road that is not a dead end to the next room (which should be the second on the right). Then, travel down the right-most path downhill and follow it until you reach the lookout point that reveals the giant Dyna tree. This looks like nothing more than a cliff at first glance, but head right to find a small alcove that will lead to a hidden cave. This room will have a Garchomp patrolling every day.
Catching Garchomp can seem overwhelming due to his impressive stat line, but there are a few tricks to make the process easier. Although this land shark can do a lot of damage, it can be easily countered. Most of their moves are Earth and Dragon-type, so Flying and Fairy Pokémon, which are completely resistant to those types, are excellent options to fight them. Togekiss, which is both tough types, is a suitable choice that Garchomp will have trouble dealing damage. In case a Flying type is not brought in, make sure that Pokémon knows Protect or a similar move. Garchomp has a chance to meet Dig, which is a 2-turn move that is extremely easy to predict. As they are of the Ground type, Garchomp is immune to electrical movements. This includes Thunder Wave, so Stun Spore is the only sure way to inflict paralysis on him.
