HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Warmer weather and a touch of fog will kick off the work week as we await the arrival of a powerful cold front just before the end of the year. Temperatures will barely dip below 60 ° C overnight as widespread low clouds and patchy fog develop over southeast Texas. Most likely there will be fog to the north and west of Houston. We will have limited sunlight during the day with highs in the mid-70s and a 20% chance of a brief shower.

When does the next storm arrive in Houston?

Our latest 2020 storm system arrives Wednesday with thunderstorms and a strong cold front Wednesday night.

When will it rain and how much will we get?

Showers and thunderstorms are likely to occur any time on Wednesday, but are more likely to occur overnight and overnight. Because this weather system appears to be slowing down, a cold shower could linger after sunrise Thursday. Current expectations are that most will collect 1-2 “of rain and isolated spots will receive 3-5”. The streets may be flooded on Wednesday night.

Will we have any severe weather?

Severe weather is possible but still unlikely. Gusty winds would be our biggest threat if severe weather materializes.

What’s the New Year’s Eve weather forecast for Houston?

New Year’s Eve will bring us cold, windy and wet weather, but we expect the rain to clear up before midnight. The temperature is likely to stay stuck in the 40s all day. At the stroke of midnight on New Years Day, temperatures are likely to be in the upper 30s and lower 40s with a wind chill factor close to freezing.

Wait, you said “freeze”. Will there be snow?

Snow seems unlikely in Houston, but there is a chance that snowflakes will fly somewhere in Texas on New Years Eve. Right now it seems most likely along and west of the I-35 corridor. Where it snows depends on the exact path the storm system takes across the state, so we can’t completely rule it out for southeast Texas yet.

So you’re saying there is a chance it will snow in Houston?

Yes, there is a very very low probability other than zero, but don’t get your hopes up just yet.
