Horn of Africa nation to hold parliamentary elections in June

(MENAFN) According to the country’s electoral authority, 134,109 observers will monitor Ethiopia’s upcoming parliamentary elections.

The election will see candidates from 47 political parties and 125 independent contenders vying for seats in the 547-member parliament and regional councils.

According to local broadcaster Fana, the observers will be upgraded by 36 civil society organizations that passed the official approval process of the Ethiopian National Electoral Board.

According to the political analyst, “This time the stakes are high as Ethiopia has been struggling with a democratic transition since 2018.”
