We’re all looking to get a piece of the next-gen pie – some are even pretty desperate, in fact, and we don’t blame it. But, we hope you are not so desperate. British retailer Currys PC World currently has the Xbox Series X listed for £ 2,449. That’s right, nearly two and a half thousand of the queen’s best sterling and around $ 3,200 USD at the time of writing.
But, you might wonder, why is a major British retailer deliberately selling the console at such a ridiculous price? Interestingly, this surprise price is just another part of the retailer’s booking process.
According to Nick Hayden, Game Director at Currys PC World, the “one-price strategy” has been put in place to prioritize those who have already pre-ordered the console. Every customer who has managed to secure a pre-order has been provided with a code that will effectively discount the listing by £ 2000, down to the expected £ 449.
Those who had booked an Xbox Series X (or PS5) with Currys were already required to make a £ 5 deposit and this current situation is presumably a way for the retailer to give everyone the option to pay the full price of the console. now or when it ships in November.
In case you were wondering, those in the UK can go to the order page and try to buy the console for £ 2449, seriously. However, before any player with more money than sense goes in, Currys has insurance, as all orders placed without the special promo code will be canceled. Which, to be frank, is a very good thing.
Actually the codes were only valid until Oct 18, 2020 so now the page is down with a big price tag attached. There is a very good chance that the console’s price will drop again soon to allow others to pre-order, or simply buy it on launch day.
If you want any updates on Xbox Series X pre-orders, we actually have a dedicated update page. We also recommend following @IGNDeals or @IGNUKOffers to get live pre-order updates on both PS5 and Xbox Series X.
