Here’s our best look at Google’s new Chromecast Android TV yet

[ad_1]

We’ve been hearing rumors about a new Chromecast with Android TV, finally with a proper remote, for months. There have been sporadic leaks since then, but today we are seeing the fabled remote for the first time, courtesy of WinFuture. Behold:

Ooooo. Ahhhh.

As usual with Android TV remotes, the physical interface remains rather sparse. There’s a directional keyboard, a volume rocker, the usual navigation buttons, as well as YouTube and Netflix presets. Of course, being Google, there is also a Tow Assistant button. In particular, there is also a power button; Chromecast modules are normally activated indefinitely.

The new look confirms the design we had previously seen, a new dongle that can easily be hidden behind your TV instead of taking up space on your multimedia console like other streaming devices. According to WinFuture, the device uses a quad core AMLogic S905X2 chipset with two gigabytes of RAM and “small” internal memory.

Google has already let us know that it plans to announce new Pixels and a new Nest device at its event on September 30. At this point, it seems almost certain that the new Chromecast will also launch. Current rumors point to the price being as low as $ 50. If true, and if it runs at 4K, it could be an easy win for Google. Let’s hope the rumor spills out, assuming the company doesn’t make too many cuts to get to that point.
