This has been a great year for gamers trying to get their hands on a variety of shiny new toys. Next-generation consoles like Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 sold out on pre-orders in minutes (or seconds sometimes). Graphics cards like the Nvidia RTX 3080 sold out even faster.
But there is always hope and it comes in two flavors. The first is that there will be stock at launch at some retailers. You may be lucky.
The second is that you shouldn’t worry too much about getting a PS5 or Xbox Series X | S at launch. If you can live without a new console for a few weeks, there will be more opportunities to buy one. It’s not like a lot of next-gen games are going to be played from scratch.
Regardless, one last chance has arisen to secure a PS5 at launch. Others may in the next few days.
Target, it turns out, will have the system in stock in its stores on launch day.
Here’s a catch, of course – you’ll still need to order the console online in order to pick it up from the store. If that sounds a bit complicated, well, it is. Welcome to the largest console launch in history that took place during one of the worst global pandemics in living memory (and in an election year).
So you will need to order the machine online for store pickup and then head to the store to claim your order. If, after the first big wave of orders, there are consoles left, Target will have them available to buy direct from the store, although this could take weeks or even months.
To get a PS5 at Target, you’ll need to go to the retailer’s website that morning and keep updating the page until you see the PS5 available. I don’t think we will have that much bot problem this time as it will be for pickup at the store, but that’s just a guess.
So there is hope. And other retailers may very well use similar strategies.
The PlayStation 5 launches next Thursday, November 12.
