Hades, Animal Crossing and Ghost of Tsushima compete for game of the year at the 2020 Game Awards

It’s that time of year again where your favorite games from last year are pitted against each other for Game of the Year in The Game Awards 2020.

The annual awards show, hosted once again by Geoff Keighley, will take place on December 10. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will be hosted at various studios in Los Angeles, London and Tokyo, away from a live audience, and will be streamed virtually through 45 video platforms, including Twitch and YouTube.

The social distancing measures that are being carried out will not detract from the fact that this year’s nominees are really, Really good games (a subjective opinion, of course). Leading the line with 10 nominations is Naughty Dog The Last of Us Part II, and on its way is the high-impact indie title from Supergiant Games. hell with 8 surprise nominations, and Sucker Punch’s Tsushima ghost with 7.

All three games compete for the coveted Game of the Year award, along with Square Enix Final Fantasy VII Remake, id Software’s Doom Eternaland the darling of the Nintendo quarantine, Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

GOTY winners for previous iterations of The Game Awards include Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (2019) and God of War (2018).

Although not nominated for Game of the Year, there are several nominees that hail from the still recent era of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, including Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Moralesand Ubisoft Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Voting for The Game Awards 2020 is now available on the official website and will close on December 9.
