GTA 6 is the biggest mystery in gaming – a highly anticipated and requested title that players are sure will arrive at some point, but has yet to be officially revealed. It’s been over seven years since the last GTA game came out, and over two years since Rockstar Games released the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2. But despite this long gap since the release of the last GTA game, Rockstar Games has remained on the sidelines of its continuation.
We know that next on the Rockstar Games agenda is an upgraded version of GTA 5, hitting next-gen consoles in the second half of next year.
While this upgraded version of GTA 5 will bring with it some welcome features, it’s safe to say that fans of the Grand Theft Auto game are generally eager for GTA 6.
As Rockstar Games has been keeping quiet about its next main GTA game, rumors about GTA 6 have been swirling.
It has been claimed, among other things, that GTA 6 will be a timed PS5 exclusive, will be set in Vice City during the ’80s, will have a drug trafficking story inspired by the success of Netflix Narcos, and will feature a new location in America. from the south.
Despite all these real rumors, concrete information about GTA 6 is practically non-existent.
And while fans await an official announcement on GTA 6, Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Rockstar Games’ parent company Take Two, has made some interesting comments.
Zelnick was recently questioned if Take Two would ever release free components for hit T2 games like GTA or NBA 2K.
As reported in a VGC post, in his second quarter earnings call Zelnick was asked, “For example, in the spirit of Call of Duty Warzone and Call of Duty Modern Warfare, would it ever make sense to make a game? Free component available for GTA or NBA 2K? “
And what Zelnick said was interesting read. Take Two’s big shot explained: “Well, look, we’re pretty open-minded and at the same time we deliver the highest quality experiences in the business and charge a lot less for them than we think they are worth to consumers.
“And then we usually deliver a continuous component that is free, and that’s already a great value.”
Zelnick went on to say that Take Two has previously promoted their games for cheap or free, such as the recent GTA 5 free download on the Epic Games Store.
And Zelnick added: “And of course Rockstar has announced that GTA Online will be a standalone experience for the next generation, arriving in the second half of 2021, and that it will be free for PS5 users for about three months.
“So as you can see, we are open-minded about our business model and I would not rule out the possibility that at some point, certain experiences may become free as an entry point.
“I like what I consider to be a kind of linked free game, where 100 percent of people recognize the value of the title and pay to play it, and you continuously have what is effectively an attached free game experience that can last for many years. Grand Theft Auto Online, of course, has been successful for seven years and is expected to set a new record this fiscal year, surprisingly. “
It remains to be seen whether Rockstar Games decides to make the GTA 6 online component a separate free download or adhere to the current “connected” approach that Zelnick describes.
But it’s definitely something to watch out for and add to the ever-growing list of possibilities GTA 6 could bring to the table when it’s finally announced.
