Graeme Souness warned Manchester United that they risk being “stripped of their pants” if they have agreed to a deal with Jadon Sancho behind Borussia Dortmund’s back.
United is working on a £ 120 million deal to sign England winger Sancho this summer, amid claims that personal terms and length of contract have already been agreed.
But Liverpool legend Souness said United risk seeing Dortmund raise its asking price for Sancho if they have negotiated with their camp before approaching the German club.
“I don’t see it, unless everyone has changed,” said Souness, who used the same phrase “sagging pants” when United re-signed Paul Pogba for a club record of £ 89 million in 2016. .
“I don’t think you go into personal terms, length of contract, purchases and terms, until the two clubs have decided on a fee.
“I mean the first thing is that the two clubs come to an agreement, the rest comes second, so I’m not sure that’s correct.”
“If you are united and you are doing it, without an agreement with Dortmund, they will remove your pants when you are at a table with Dortmund.
“Because they know the strength of your offer, they know you are very willing to do it, so it will take away any bargaining power from you if you go down that path.”
“You could do it behind everyone’s back, but the facts are in the public domain and the fact that ‘someone from Dortmund’ is saying that the player spoke to someone from United. I don’t see him as an assistant personally.
“The transfer can happen, but I don’t see it happening that chronologically. I think there has to be two clubs in two clubs and then you get down to business.”
