Google will soon allow iPhone users to lock tabs incognito with Face or Touch ID

Google is working on a new way to lock tabs incognito using Face or Touch ID. This feature is currently being tested in the beta channel for Google Chrome for iOS.

The beta version 89.4389.48 of Google Chrome for iOS comes with a new security feature for incognito tabs, as discovered by 9to5Google. The update log reads: “You can add more security to your incognito tabs with Touch ID or Face ID. When you return to the Chrome app, your incognito tabs will blur until I confirm it’s you. “

IOS users who are on the beta version of Chrome can enable this feature by going to Settings> Privacy> Block Incognito Tabs. This feature can be used to keep tabs hidden incognito while multitasking in different apps. Incognito tabs still appear in the tab switcher, so this feature is useful as those tabs can remain blurry when opened. It is also available for iPhones with Touch ID and Face ID. Google is expected to release Chrome 89 in March, but there is no confirmation on whether this feature will arrive with the update or not.

This security feature is nothing new and is similar to what the Google Search app has, and also to Samsung’s mobile browser. The Google Search application requires biometric data to confirm if it is you in cases of returning to an incognito session after 15 minutes. It is closer to what Samsung offers in its mobile browser for users to lock tabs with face or fingerprint recognition.
