Google search

According to the post, users should open the latest version of the Google app or search your Google Search widget on your mobile device, tap the microphone icon and say “What song is this?” or click the “Find a song” button.

Once this is done, they should start humming for 10-15 seconds. In the Google Assistant, just say “Ok Google, what song is this?” and then hum the melody.

The feature is currently available in English on iOS and in more than 20 languages on Android. Google hopes to expand the feature to more languages in the future.

Once a user has finished humming, the machine learning algorithm helps to identify possible song matches. It doesn’t have to be perfect for the feature to work and Google will display the most likely options based on the melody.

Users can select the best combination and explore information about the song and the artist, watch any music video that accompanies the song, or listen to the song in their favorite music app. They can also find the lyrics, read the reviews, and even watch other recordings of the same song.

According to Google, the melody of a song is like a fingerprint with a unique identity. Google has created machine learning models that can match music to that unique “fingerprint.”

When a user hums, machine learning models transform the audio into a number sequence that represents the melody of the song. Compare sequences with thousands of songs from around the world and identify possible matches in real time.
