After a decade-long hiatus, the Hummer is making its triumphant return as an all-electric pickup.
The first of its kind in GMC’s portfolio, the Hummer EV 2022 is powered by an Ultium battery system that boasts an estimated driving range of over 350 miles and 800-volt DC fast charging.
“The GMC Hummer EV is revolutionary, challenging what the industry considers a truck,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC, in a statement. “The tailored off-road content of Edition 1 will make the Hummer EV’s unprecedented capacity and zero emissions a very special proposition for customers.”
Initial production is scheduled to begin late next year at GM’s Factory ZERO Detroit-Hamtramck assembly center, a 40-year-old facility that has been repurposed as the company’s first dedicated electric vehicle assembly plant. Future production vehicles made there will offer zero emissions, according to GMC.
Based on the military Humvee, General Motors launched its first Hummer models in 1998. However, in the mid-1990s, an economic recession and a failed acquisition led GM to dismantle the brand; the last Hummer H3 rolled off the line in May 2010. The automaker began announcing its return earlier this year, revealing two models, an electric pickup and an SUV, to be sold under the GMC Hummer EV brand.
Edition 1 highlights include a 0-60 mph acceleration in three seconds, drive mode control, an Infinity roof and removable clear Sky panels, and a large infotainment screen, powered by Epic’s Unreal Engine. Games. GMC’s 1,000-horsepower Hummer EV will be available in Fall 2021, starting at $ 112,595.

If all goes well with next year’s Edition 1, drivers can look forward to additional versions introduced in future models, including the $ 79,995 Hummer EV2 (Spring 2024), $ 89,995 EV 2X (Spring 2023), and EV3X. $ 99,995 (Fall 2022).
