It has been announced that an animated film titled Gilgamesh is in the works. Fortnite’s Epic Games will be one of the main sponsors of the project.

An animated film titled Gilgamesh is in development from the Latin American film studio Hook Up with Fortnite Game developer Epic Games invests in the project. Epic Games will also provide its Unreal Engine technology as the animation hub in which the movie will be created. Unreal Engine has been used recently in both The mandalorian and Westworld for creating virtual sets and visual experiences that are both amazing and believable.

According to Deadline, the film will follow the life, adventures and tragedies of the legendary Gilgamesh, who served as inspiration for the well-known stories Odyssey and Iliad. The main plot will be about Gilgamesh in search of immortality, his difficult relationship with the enemy Enkidu (reminiscent of the relationship between Frodo and Sam), and how this former Indiana Jones-like character became a demigod.

Epic Games, making its first foray into the world of feature films, seems like the next logical step for the company, especially with all the photorealistic work its game engine has already provided to popular TV shows. The fact that Unreal helps others create content has allowed Epic to grow and create a cross-platform business, becoming more than just a software and video game development company. While an animated movie like Gilgamesh that’s along the same lines that a Pixar movie may not seem like a big step, it will open more doors for you if the movie is successful, which it probably will.
