‘Genshin Impact’ can kill resin energy without breaking the game or losing money

I’ve been in an absolute tear with Genshin Impact lately, in the last two days getting three 5 stars, including two in the same batch of ten wishes, all of which, fortunately, were free of money saved.

Now I have Qiqi, someone I have loved for a long time, and even cheated on her right away. But I am reaching a breaking point with resin energy in this game. Now, at world level 5, I need my characters to be level 70-80 with level 70-80 weapons and higher level talents and artifacts to be of real benefit to me. And yet at every step all What I have to do to upgrade someone like Qiqi to that point will take weeks and weeks of play due to resin limits.

At this point, I think miHoYo should seriously consider ditching the whole resin concept and recharging power. Before discussing how that would destroy the game’s existing loops and how anti-gacha it is, hear me out. In fact, I’ve thought it through.

The point here is that this would benefit all the world. By killing Resin, I’m not demanding that myHoYo remove its gacha basics of hyper-rare 5-star jerks and gameplay mechanics. It’s a completely different debate on the ethics of gambling, but that’s not what I’m focusing on here today. But the bottom line remains that players are less likely to spend money on new characters when insane resin limits render those characters functionally useless and little more than collectibles.

Genshin Impact is more than a gacha game, it is also a very substantive open world RPG. And substantive open world RPGs have no limits where you can only fight 3-4 bosses per day or run 5-6 micro dungeons for a great total playtime of 15 minutes. That is what the resin is preventing.

Here’s the thing, Resin could be eliminated in Genshin Impact without breaking the game cycle and with myHoYo continuing to earn ungodly amounts of money:

– While you can currently recharge your energy with Primogems, there is a limit, and players from afar will use those gems to throw, not energy that will automatically recharge in time. The main source of income is, and will continue to be, gacha pull.

– MiHoYo hasn’t even opened the floodgates of cosmetics for Genshin Impact yet. We know that outfits are yet to come, and the developer will make a fortune selling different clothes, colors, or hairstyles for existing heroes. And God only knows, we’ll probably have to bet on them too.

– There are still limits in the game that will prevent simply unlimited farming, even without resin. At the very least, if you take damage while doing dungeons or fighting bosses, you’ll need to heal your party, either manually with the members of the healing team or by waiting for the sources to recharge if you take enough damage.

– There are also limits to empower your characters, since they require elements that must be collected in nature, such as flowers, minerals or materials that must be cultivated from enemies. Enemies and resources both have native respawn timers that prevent endless cultivation of them per day, so this would be a process that would take a while to complete over time, even if players now had other things like XP cards. , Mora and ascension materials more readily available.

– RNG is still a factor that would make grinding time-consuming for each individual character. Trying to say, a full legendary set of artifacts for a character with the correct stats you want is nothing short of impossible with the current resin system, but even without that cap, it would still take a long, long time for each character.

– The same goes for world bosses like the Wolf and the Dragon, which can be cultivated exactly right now once a week with a negligible drop rate for things players need like weapon crafting frames or higher tier talent materials. These must be able to be cultivated multiple times.

– You could reduce certain things where you need it. Like in, you probably have to tone down the adventure range experience of the activities as they were no longer limited by resin so people can’t shoot AR 50 in a single day or something wild like that . But it would be quite easy to make those kinds of adjustments.

The point is that even without the Resin system, the game’s main vehicle for making money would still be the gacha pull. It’s just that players could spend much more time in the game and also be much more motivated to obtain new heroes and unlock their constellations if they knew that they can work to make them relevant to combat through sufficient gameplay, rather than weeks. it takes to focus on a single character right now. Ultimately, this would benefit everyone. Players would be more interested in the game and less likely to stray due to the oppressive limits of resin. MiHoYo would probably even see plus spending on wishes with all characters and weapons is now much more useful.

Do I have any faith that myHoYo will do this? No, none at all. I think they are still too much into the mobile gacha mindset and refuse to admit that Genshin Impact is a fully functional AAA RPG at its core. The first step in solving the resin problems is … raising the resin limit, which shows me that they don’t really understand this problem in the slightest, and that it will take them eons to do something meaningful to address it. I just hope too many players haven’t left by the time they do.
