Geek Review – Pokémon Sword and Shield: The Crown Tundra DLC

[ad_1]

The Pokémon Company weren’t kidding about everyone catching everyone. Now that the second and last part of the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass, The Crown Tundra, it’s out, it’s finally time for some coaches to come down the fence and decide if they are committed to their time and effort.

When the first expansion The island of armor was released in June, most of us were stuck at home and ultimately a little disappointed with what came out. While a new picturesque island was added to the map, and the entire island was essentially a wild area full of new Pokémon to add to the Pokédex, the story was a bit light and weak. The crown tundra it’s Game Freak’s chance to fill that void and hope that the coaches will open their wallets and give the franchise’s second expansion a shot. Featuring richer missions, legendary Pokémon, and shiny new treasures to improve Pokémon stats for competitive battles, The crown tundra It certainly lives up to its name as the top dog, er, monster.

As they exit Crown Tundra Station and enter the cold white fields, the coaches will be drawn into the heated argument between former gym leader Peony and his daughter Peonia. Apparently Peony has researched a bunch of exciting legendary clues and plans to explore areas with her daughter, but Peony is more interested in exploring Max Lair, and preferably without her embarrassing father. Unsurprisingly, it ends with Peonia on the run and the trainers now become Peony’s partners on her legendary adventure as the two share a house in the village. Well, that escalated quickly.

And although Peony calls himself his partner, coaches shouldn’t expect him to join him. Instead, his three legendary tracks will be put in the hands of the coaches, and you will be expected to run and catch, and report back to him in that warm and comfortable home when the tracks are resolved. However, the Boss calls you, so maybe Peonia was right all along.

Regardless, the three clues themselves are at the core of this expansion, and the first leads you to locate Calyrex, the King of Bountiful Harvests. Surprisingly, finding Calyrex is not difficult at all, as it appears to trainers the moment his statue regains its former glory. The real mission is to help him get his steed back, and that’s where the action begins as you have to run, talk to the villagers, grow a plant, and create an item. No wait, this isn’t a crossover with another popular Nintendo game where you live with talking animals on an island, but once you’re done, Calyrex will regain his steed and divine power.

And then you’ll catch him and keep him in a Pokéball for the rest of his life.

The second clue would be to make the gears of your brain spin at full power, as you must locate the four ruins scattered throughout the Crown Tundra and solve the puzzle in each door to unlock it. Behind each door, a treasure awaits: one of the legendary Regi Brothers.

For the third track, the trainers only have to chase the three legendary birds around the city. Trainers, prepare for excruciating rides up and down Snowslide Slope for one bird, around the middle of the Isle of Armor for another, and then from Hammerlocke Hills to Rolling Fields for the last, all while trying to avoid running into all the wild Pokémon. by the way.

Once the Trainers have completed all three Legendary tracks, they already have eight Legendary Pokémon in their pocket, but here’s the catch: these aren’t the only Legendary Pokémon to The crown tundra has added to the game. The only bummer is that fighting these Level 70 Legendary Pokémon isn’t as challenging as fighting the Dynamic Pokémon in Max Lair.

Dynamax Adventures in Max Lair is a new way to fight and catch dinamax Pokémons. Trainers form a team of four by inviting friends, or they can choose to go alone with the slots filled by NPCs. For security reasons explained by Max Lair scientists, Trainers cannot bring their own Pokémon, so they will be offered a rental Pokémon.

Upon entering, they will face crisscrossing tunnels where they will have to choose their paths and fight up to three Dinamax Pokémon before facing the final Legendary Pokémon. Although these Pokémon don’t have shields like regular Max Raids, they hit harder with their aggressive attacks. It is also not an easy task to fight all of them with a single Pokémon and without access to potions. Fortunately, Trainers can exchange their rental Pokémon with the dynamic Pokémon they catch in the tunnels. And at the end of the adventure, even if the trainers lose to the Legendary Pokémon, they can choose to keep one of the dinamax Pokémon.

Overall, players will get a solid 12 hours of gameplay by completing all three main missions, and while it feels pretty short, this is already more than what. The island of armor Offered. However, the credits are not piling up yet, as the coaches will now return to Wyndon Stadium for the Galar Stars Tournament.

The tournament is a nice finishing touch and a smart way to add it to the main game as trainers can now replay the tournament at Wyndon Stadium at any time as there are more Pokémon to catch, Ultra Beasts to tame in Dynamax Adventures, Spiritomb to be found, and don’t forget to get that Crown of Galarica for your Galarian Slowpoke. These post-mission activities will continue to keep the trainers busy.

In general, The crown tundra is a fun DLC with lovely landscapes. As for the characters, the Peony-Peonia duo is definitely more fun than the Mustard-Honey duo in The island of armor. Boomer Dad Peony’s dialogue was so cheesy, but you’d forgive him quickly, especially after all the torture Calyrex put him through.

GEEK REVIEW SCORE

Summary

Crown Tundra is not just another DLC to add more than 100 Pokémon to the Pokédex and a new uniform to your wardrobe. He’s found intriguing ways to bring Legendary Pokemon to life so they’re not just another Catch-and-Go Pokemon.
