Garmin adds a pregnancy tracking option

Technology company Garmin has added a new feature of your smart watches: an activity and pregnancy tracking option. The feature allows users to track pregnancy-related symptoms such as fatigue, monitor progress based on due date, and adapt to changes in the user’s body.

Not only that, but now also shows changes in pregnancy fitness and performance stats, monitors hydration, gives users the option to modify heart rate alerts or pause training status updates, which is something that generally uses metrics like the amount of exercise someone does to rank the level fitness and progress.

Additionally, users now have the option to customize reminders for relevant fitness, such as Kegel exercises., as well as recording more than 30 details and symptoms, from the baby’s movement to the blood glucose levels. An additional app also allows users to monitor contractions during labor using a contraction timer.

Susan Lyman, Garmin’s vice president of global consumer marketing, stated in a press release: “We are hopeful that this pregnancy tracking feature will help women understand how their pregnancy relates to their active lifestyles and general well-being.”

Pregnant users have previously criticized smartwatch companies for failing to include a pregnancy mode on their devices, and in response, Garmin has stepped up their game, with the pregnancy tracking option now available for various Garmin devices through the Connect IQ store, including the Fenix, Forerunner, Venu and Vivoactive lineups.

You can record and track your daily data from your compatible smartwatch using the Pregnancy Tracking Connect IQ app, which will sync with your Garmin Connect account.

And while staying active, here are some ways you can customize your settings on Garmin Connect and on your compatible smartwatch during your pregnancy:

  • Pause your training state. This helps if you notice that your condition decreases with the increase in heart rate and blood volume that normally occurs with pregnancy.
  • Enable high heart rate alerts for your activities. This will help you control your heart rate so that it stays within your doctor’s recommendations.
  • Adjust your daily hydration goal. Hydration is key!
