Science fiction changed ‘forever’
“Thrones” showrunners Benioff and Weiss signed a multi-year deal with Netflix last August to write, produce and direct new series and movies.

The couple spent about a decade on HBO’s epic fantasy “Thrones,” which shattered viewership records, garnered an unprecedented number of Emmy Awards for a fictional show and redefined the weekly “television event.”
Announcing the deal last year, Benioff and Weiss said they shared a love for “the same books” as various Netflix executives.
“The first time I read the ‘The Three Body Problem’ trilogy (Remembrance of Earth’s Past), it forever changed what science fiction meant to me,” said Peter Friedlander, vice president of the Netflix original series.
Benioff, Weiss and the other producers exchange frequent emails and “compulsively discuss books,” he added.
