Samsung’s new budget flagship Galaxy S20 FE could be the recipe for success in today’s economic climate. It offers more value for your money than many of its rivals in the same price range and ships with many flagship features for a non-flagship price. However, the Galaxy S20 FE is not flawless and complaints about the precision of the touchscreen are now popping up on the web.
We recently ran into an annoying Galaxy S20 FE touchscreen related issue where the beautiful 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display stops responding or misread inputs, sometimes generating jittery scrolling animations. The tactile responsiveness is sometimes erratic, but it took some time for the issue to become visible because it is often fixed randomly and it’s easy to mistake it for a palm rejection error. But in the latest worst case, we had to reboot the phone for the touchscreen to work properly again.
It’s also worth noting that only one of our two Galaxy S20 FE units has had this problem so far. This can be good news and bad news. It’s good because it doesn’t affect all users, obviously, but it’s potentially bad because it could hint at a hardware issue with some batches.
There is no known workaround yet
It turns out that we are not the only Galaxy S20 FE users who have experienced these issues. Some other owners have recently described similar problems in Reddit and the Samsung Community Forums, but we’re not sure how widespread the issue is or if it can be fixed by a future firmware update.
It’s a shame that this issue spoils the fantastic user experience the Galaxy S20 FE offers for some customers. The phone is almost perfect for what it is and for the price, and it would be difficult to find a better smartphone with a 120Hz screen at this price, so hopefully Samsung will fix the problem soon.
