Galaxy S10 One UI 3.0 Android 11 update withdrawn due to bugs

Samsung has delivered on its commitment to roll out major Android updates faster, and while it’s still not as fast as most would like, it’s still much better than the old Samsung ways. That being said, there would inevitably be some obstacles along the way, and unfortunately, it seems that Galaxy S10 owners were unlucky enough to run into them. As soon as Samsung released Android 11 for these phones, users encountered numerous seemingly unrelated issues, forcing the company to halt the release.

In the old days, Samsung released a major version of Android for a one-year flagship might have been a hit or miss. Fortunately, the company has turned the page, and after the 2020 models had their turn, Samsung began pushing One UI 3.0, which comes with Android 11, to the 2019 Galaxy S21 series. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t have a happy ending, at less not yet.

There have been numerous complaints, especially on Reddit, about problems they encountered while updating to this latest version. These cover a wide range of issues, from overheating to increased battery drain and a blurry camera image. There doesn’t seem to be a common cause for these, except for the firmware update they just installed.

The exact reasons for this are still unclear, but Samsung has now rolled out the update to both its regular OTA servers and its SmartSwitch app. Unfortunately, the lack of official recognition also leaves already affected users with very few resources. Downgrading to a previous version may not be possible, at least not without erasing the data.

Users have rightly been extremely disappointed in the quality of this update, but in fairness, Samsung cannot be accused of rushing since the public beta began in November. This would also not be the first time you have managed to fail a major update and one can only hope it will serve as hard-won lessons to improve your processes and QA for the next releases.
