Francisco Ramos has thanked his friend Bruno Fernandes for saying that he wanted the midfielder to join him at Manchester United.
The Red Devils are in the market for new recruits and Fernandes was asked to give his opinion on who he thinks the Old Trafford club should look for next.
The 25-year-old named his former youth teammate from Portugal and said: “It is very difficult to choose, because I have a lot of people in the locker room who are my friend. Where did I play? Francisco Ramos.”
Ramos appreciated his friend’s comments, but suggested that he may not be good enough to represent the Red Devils as his compatriot.
“I am Bruno’s friend and we talk every day, so I already thanked him for his thoughts,” Ramos told the Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
“He replied that he did me no favors. We may have similar characteristics, but his finish and final ball are more accurate.”
United signed Fernandes in the January window, parting with £ 47 million to make the transfer happen.
The Portuguese has been a revelation, with the Red Devils still to lose since the midfielder donned the famous shirt.
United are expected to strengthen further at the end of the season, with Jadon Sancho on top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ed Woodward’s transfer wish list.
The England international could delay the Red Devils by more than £ 100 million.
