Some of the biggest soccer clubs in the world have collaborated with the popular online game for the latest update.
Soccer comes to Fortnite with a new update from Epic Games that includes the Pele Cup and collaborations with some of the biggest clubs in the world.
The ‘Kickoff Set’, which will launch on January 23, will include 23 club kits as playable skins, a new tournament with real and in-game prizes, and the opportunity to ‘thrill’ like Brazil icon Pelé.
Twenty-three clubs from around the world, including Manchester City, Juventus, Inter, AC Milan, Santos, Los Angeles FC, Melbourne City, Celtic and Rangers (full list below) will have specially designed men’s and women’s outfits in the game.
Players can win the new uniforms in the Pele Cup on January 20, with a limited-time soccer game mode, and play the new soccer island in creative mode.
‘Pele’s Air Punch’, a new gesture based on the Brazilian legend’s goal celebration, will be available to buy in store or as a prize in the Pele Cup.
Regional tournament winners will receive a signed Santos jersey, while the top 3,500 players from each region will win the Pele’s Air Punch emote and a selection of character outfits.
Nate Nanzer, Global Head of Partnerships for Epic Games, explained the collaboration to ESPN: “We thought about the evolution of Fortnite, and all the different IP integrations we’ve done and bringing all these different worlds to the game, I think we’ve done an amazing job in movies and comics.
“Batman plays with Deadpool and Wolverine and Iron Man. We put all these amazing worlds together.
“But in sports, we’ve had an incredible partnership with the NFL, but we haven’t really done much beyond our partnership with the NFL. Over the past year, we’ve really focused on how we can grow our footprint in sports.
“There could definitely be things that we do with modern footballers in the future, and I think since a lot of them are huge Fortnite fans, there could be some fun things that we do in the future.”
