Kathmandu:
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla arrived in Kathmandu today for a two-day official visit to Nepal, during which he will hold talks with his Nepalese counterpart and other senior leaders and discuss broad areas of bilateral cooperation.
Shringla’s inaugural visit to Nepal is at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Secretary, Bharat Raj Paudyal, amid tension in bilateral relations following a bitter border dispute between the two countries.
This will be a continuation of the regular exchange of high-level visits between the two friendly neighbors, the Nepalese Foreign Ministry said in a statement this week.
The Foreign Secretary is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting today with his Nepalese counterpart, in which broad areas of cooperation between Nepal and India will be discussed. He will also meet with Foreign Minister Pradeep Gyawali, according to the Nepal Foreign Ministry.
Mr. Shringla is also scheduled to visit Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and President Bidya Devi Bhandari today. On Friday, he will give a lecture in Kathmandu and inspect three schools built with Indian aid in Gorkha, the epicenter of the 2015 earthquake, he said.
He will also deliver COVID-19-related support to the government of Nepal before concluding his two-day visit on Friday.
