AC Milan confirmed on Thursday that star Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been quarantined after he tested positive for the new coronavirus. The 38-year-old Swedish star confirmed the news on the microblogging site Twitter with a humorously ‘petty’ tweet, as is his style.
“Yesterday I tested negative for Covid and today positive. No symptoms. Covid had the courage to challenge me. Bad idea.”
The striker is isolated at home following a test before the Europa League third qualifying round tie against Norwegian club Bodo-Glimt at San Siro on Thursday afternoon. Ibrahimovic skipped Thursday’s match and subsequently will also miss the Europa League play-offs and the next two Serie A matches against Crotone and Spezia.
“Ibrahimovic tested positive for Covid-19 after a second round of testing before tonight’s game against Bodo / Glimt,” the Serie A club also let out a tweet.
The soccer star’s witty message on social media sparked some equally elegant responses, as Twitter is sure the coronavirus has hit the wrong person. The social media platform was packed with people ‘sending their thoughts to the virus’ as the forward prepared to fight the infection. Here are some reactions that have been buzzing around right now:
Former soccer player and television host Gary Lineker responded to Ibrahimovic’s tweet saying, “News that @Ibra_official has tested positive for Coronavirus. Thoughts are on the virus at this difficult time.”
Another user commented: “Covid attacked the wrong person.”
Ibrahimovic is likely to be available again after the international break for the Milan derby against Inter on 17 October.
