FIFA 21 CBs: Who are the highest rated centers in the game?

Virgil van Dijk, the Liverpool powerhouse, is king of defense after being once again named the best central defender ahead of the launch of the video game FIFA 21.

Before the launch of the new game on October 9, the Dutch international won the defensive honor after helping the Reds to their first Premier League title during the 2019-20 season.

Van Dijk received the same overall rating of 90 that he had in FIFA 20, but has seen his defense score rise one point to 91.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has maintained his position as the game’s second-best central midfielder, with his overall rating staying at 88 but his defense rising in the single digits to 88.

In third place, Manchester City goal and Napoli stopper Kalidou Koulibaly appear, despite his overall rating falling from 89 to 88 as the Serie A team failed to win any trophies.

Interestingly, despite barely playing football last season, Man City center midfielder Aymeric Laporte is promoted to fourth best central defender with his overall and defensive stats equal.

Laporte’s rise came as a number of players fell from their lofty positions, with Juventus veteran Giorgio Chiellini falling from 88 to 87, while Barcelona’s Gerard Piqué fell to sixth and Inter’s Diego Godin fell to ninth.

Dortmund’s Mats Hummels dropped an overall rating point from 87 to 86, while Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld saw his questionable high rating from 87 pruned to 85.

His Spurs teammate Jan Vertonghen, who had an 87 rating on FIFA 21, was not on the top 20 list, which saw players scoring as low as 84 on the cut.

Other players on the list included Chelsea’s new signing Thiago Silva, while Manchester City’s Fernandinho was included after his position was changed from DM to CB.
