Apple’s range of iPhone 12s is officially overdue, but it’s the company’s controversial design decisions that are the real talking point, and now new leaks have revealed what could be the biggest of all.
Working together, popular YouTuber Filip Koroy (aka EverythingApplePro) and prolific leaker Max Weinbach have revealed that Apple has decided to differentiate the iPhone 12 Pro Max from other iPhone 12 models and that means it will have to go big ( and expensive) for the best features in 2020.
“The gigantic 6.7-inch iPhone [12 Pro Max] It will truly be considered a flagship this year, ”says Koroy. “It will have the best screen and the best cameras … [iPhone] 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max were really the same devices, the 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max will be more differentiated. “
Koroy doesn’t discuss these differences, but recent leaks have speculated that the iPhone 12 Pro Max may be the only new iPhone with Apple’s exciting new LiDAR camera. Apple’s decision to downgrade the batteries in the new iPhones will also affect the iPhone 12 Pro Max model less, which may also mean it is the only model to get a 120Hz ProMotion display, despite fears that all models they lost.
But the big problem is that not everyone wants a 6.7-inch smartphone, and Koroy explains that the range’s edgy new design is likely to strengthen those feelings:
“The source of Max Weinbach, who has had time to practice with the 6.7[-inch iPhone] 12 Pro Max model, says it is quite uncomfortable [to hold]. The larger the size, the more it digs into the palm of your hand and depending on the size of your hands this can be a problem. Cases might alleviate this, but it’s definitely a very sleek and sharp piece of hardware. ”
The other awkward aspect of the iPhone 12 Pro Max is its price. Leaks earlier this month revealed increases for each new model, with the iPhone 12 Pro Max now starting at $ 1,199.
Do you deserve this price increase? Yes and no. The main driver behind this is the inclusion of an expensive 5G mmWave modem which has also seen its rivals skyrocket prices. That said, Apple is also cutting cuts with the iPhone 12 lineup. Aside from degraded batteries and their impact on 120Hz displays, Apple will also remove both the wall charger and EarPods from the box. This has clear environmental benefits, but it may not sit well with customers along with the price increases.
All of which means that the iPhone 12 range is likely to be one of Apple’s most polarized iPhone launches to date. My advice: the cheapest model looks better.
