SES has announced that the Ethiosat platform is now broadcasting all the channels of the Ethiopian Broadcasters Association (AEB) and the Ethiopian Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) exclusively.

In total, it now offers over 90 channels, 21 of which are in HD, from the East 57-degree orbital slot. They include such popular services as EBS, ETV News, and Fana TV.

SES notes that in December 2020, the Ethiopian government announced that all satellite television channels should be moved to SES ‘NSS-12 satellite so that Ethiosat can satisfy the desire of local television audiences for news and entertainment channels. local and international while driving growth in Ethiopian media. sector.

Since then, the AEB and EBC have had their members migrate their television channels and broadcast them from an orbital position rather than their viewers browsing through a multitude of foreign channels.

To support this migration, SES, through its established Elevate Installer Training Program, and with the support of local partners Ethiopian Broadcasting Authority (EBA) and Ethiopian Science and Space Institution (ESSTI), has conducted training sessions daily. As a result, there are now 20,000 certified installers from all regions of Ethiopia who are equipped to help Ethiopian viewers reorient their dishes and continue to watch their favorite local channels without interruption.

Commenting on the development, Amman Fissehazion, President of AEB, said: “Relocating dishes for millions of TV households in Ethiopia is not an easy task, and it is only possible when we have committed partners like SES. It has taken us just under two months to get our members’ channels moved to Ethiosat via the SES satellite, and we are satisfied with the progress of the relocation of the antennas so far ”.

Dr Getachew Dinku Godana, EBA Director General, added: “We can proudly say that Ethiopians now have their own dedicated television platform exclusively hosting all Ethiopia’s satellite television channels.

“In addition to the high-quality content that this platform offers, the strategic collaboration behind it has contributed to job creation and a sense of unity among the Ethiopian population.”

Steve Collar, CEO of SES, said: “Our commitment to our local partners in Ethiopia has never been stronger. In an incredibly short period of time, together with our local partners, we have managed to train 20,000 installers and now all AEB and EBC channels broadcast exclusively from Ethiosat.

“However, our work does not stop here. Together with our local team based in Addis Ababa, we will continue to work with our local partners to re-flag dishes across the country, while ensuring that Ethiosat continues to present the most engaging television offering encompassing local and international channels. “
