Ethiopian intelligence thwarts Al-Shabaab and ISS attacks – New Business Ethiopia

The Ethiopian National Intelligence and Security Service (ENISS) arrested 14 recruits from Al Shabaab and the Islamic State in Syria (ISS) who were preparing to carry out terrorist attacks in Ethiopia.

The 14 suspects were arrested in collaboration with the federal police, the Addis Ababa police, the security agencies of the Amhara and Somali regions. The individuals planned to carry out a terrorist attack using the current Ethiopian Army operation to restore law and order in the Tigray region, according to the ENISS statement reported by state broadcaster – ETV on Saturday.

Led by Abdulabdi Jemal, nicknamed Abdulkadir, who came from Somalia was leading the team that took orders from an Al Shabaab member living in Somalia named Jafar (Kure). He is captured along with six people he recruited before launching the attack in Ethiopia.

Furthermore, the statement also indicated that seven other people who took ISS assignments to carry out a terrorist attack in Ethiopia were also captured along with various materials that they plan to use for their mission. The terror group’s new recruits would also travel to Somalia to receive training on how to successfully carry out terrorist attacks, according to the ETV report.
