Addis Ababa – Ethiopia will undertake the massive development of new tourism destinations by intensifying the unique achievements of the Unity, Sheger and Entoto tourism projects, said President Sahlework Zewde.
In her opening address for the sixth year and the first joint session of the Federation Chambers and the House of People’s Representatives on Monday, President Sahlework Zewde said that promoting the tourism sector is among the government’s main focus areas. for the 2020/21 fiscal year.
“For this fiscal year, extensive tourist destinations and park development activities will be carried out in different parts of the country,” he emphasized.
President Sahlework reiterated that due attention is being paid to expanding park beautification projects in different cities across the country.
The development of the Gorgora, Wonchi and Koysha tourism projects are among the country’s priority destination development plans for the fiscal year.
Meanwhile, the director of Ethiopia’s Tourism Destination Development Directorate, Mussa Kedir, told The Ethiopian Herald that new tourism destinations play an important role in enabling Ethiopia to become competitive in the international tourism market.
The main objective of undertaking tourist destination development is to improve the international standard of destinations and attract international tourists, he added.
More than ten activities for the development and beautification of new tourist destinations will be carried out for the fiscal year, according to him.
Tourism Ethiopia is currently undertaking the development of the Simien Mountains, Nechisar, Chebera Curchura, Gambella national parks and the Sankalle Wildlife Conservation destination, he said.
Ethiopia is known for its abundant tourism resources, but has been generating less in the sector due to a lack of quality of service and infrastructure facilities, the expert stressed.
