Addis Ababa – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the government’s next critical approach is to rehabilitate the people of Tigray and rebuild the regional state.
In response to questions raised today by members of the House of People’s Representatives, the prime minister said that the law enforcement operation in the region has been carried out successfully without harming civilians.
“Our next critical focus is to rehabilitate the people of Tigray,” he said, adding that all Ethiopians must cooperate to rebuild the region.
Furthermore, the prime minister claimed that the junta has pursued its own interests and has neglected most of the people of Tigray.
The group’s lack of concern for the people is pathetic, he noted, adding that the people and the government should go beyond that and focus on rehabilitating the region and the country.
Abiy claimed that this government has rehabilitated millions of people displaced by various conflicts over the past two and a half years.
“We have experience in Somali, Gideo and elsewhere,” he said, adding that his government “can repatriate our people from Sudan as soon as possible.”
The government is committed to bringing citizens of Sudan back in collaboration with the UN, the government and other humanitarian agencies as long as they do not commit crimes, the prime minister said.
However, he noted that reports show that refugees in Sudan are mostly men, as opposed to women and children. “Who are these young men? If they are among those who massacred innocent civilians in Maikadra, then they should be brought to justice.”
