The Central Statistical Agency (CSA) stated that it is committed to producing a reliable and accessible national statistical system and that its advancement is part of the achievement of the country’s Ten-Year Outlook Plan.
In the workshop organized by the Agency to evaluate the previous performance and establish the next plan, Biratu Yigazu, Director of the Agency, said that the workshop is of utmost importance to provide you with the essential inputs to enrich the next strategic plan. The workshop will also help curb the challenges noted above, drawing lessons from the shortcomings.
Biratu added that the Agency is committed to meeting the need for data from continental and international organizations. The strategic plan takes into account agreements such as the Sustainable Development Programs, Agenda 2063 and the EGAD plan.
He explained that the plan can serve as an input to formulate laws and regulations on the use of statistics. It also helps provide the public with genuine and organized facts and figures.
Workshop participants discussed issues on how to curb the challenges observed in the previous performance and use them as input to strengthen the next five-year plan.
Aberash Tariku, deputy director general of the agency, for his part, said the workshop will result in a comprehensive plan that could strengthen the documentation of national statistics.
Aberash further noted that the plan could serve as input for National Sustainable Development Strategies.
Professional associations, universities, research institutes, stakeholders and other sector offices participated in the workshop and time constraints, lack of experience, workload and Covid-19 were cited among the main obstacles that hinder the achievement of the previous strategic plan.
