Schools located in rural Ethiopia will begin education on October 19, with covid-19 precautions, the Ministry of Education announced.

The Ministry’s Director of Public Relations, Hargua Mammo, told The Ethiopian Herald that the Ministry has finalized preparations to start education in rural areas, where the teaching-learning process will strictly follow Covid-19 precautions.

The distribution of face masks will end this week, states are expected to deliver disinfectant and other materials that help fight the Covid-19 pandemic in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, he added.

Schools will resume education with 20-30 students in a class to maintain social distancing, he said.

Make-up classes and other means of portion coverage will be held to allow students to be proficient before starting the actual class, according to her.

In addition, he said that the remedial class will not affect education this academic year.

Meanwhile, the Ministry announced that it is finalizing preparations to distribute 50 million masks to 46,000 schools in the country.

It has been about six months since all schools, including higher education in Ethiopia, were disrupted due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

However, currently, the government has been preparing to resume classes this Ethiopian academic year with proper planning aimed at combating the spread of the virus in schools.

Mask distribution will begin this week and 500,000 masks will also be distributed to teachers across the country very soon.

The masks are believed to help combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic during the face-to-face teaching and learning process.

Accordingly, preparations are also underway to distribute COVID-19 test thermometers to regional states, as there is a shortage of supplies for all schools.
