The Ethiopian Ministry of Health reported 784 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the national total to 75,368.

There were also 199 recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 31,204.

The death toll also rose to 1,198 after seven more people succumbed to the disease.

The Health Ministry said it had 42,964 active cases, of which 269 were classified as serious cases.

Ethiopia is the country most affected by the coronavirus in the East African region.

The Ethiopian government had launched a month-long nationwide test campaign that was expected to determine the next steps it will take in response to the pandemic.

So far, just over 1.2 million laboratory tests have been performed in the country.
