Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today inaugurated the country’s first artificial intelligence (AI) center established in the capital Addis Ababa.
The Center will be a site for the development of functional technological innovations and problem solving. Mentioning Israel’s experience as one of the countries that benefits the most from the export of Artificial Intelligence products and services, Prime Minister Abiy indicated that his country will focus on developing the sector to benefit the country.
He said AI will be used in many areas of the economy. During the inauguration of the AI Center, which took six months to establish, it is stated that the Center will be used primarily for the improvement of the country’s health and agricultural sectors, among others.
“By focusing human interactions on a series of studies, artificial intelligence is the ability to optimize computerized machines for real solutions using special technological practices. We do not seek to cultivate young people who only watch from a distance and embrace the world’s industrial revolution. Designed to support young entrepreneurs through capacity development and excellence in research, I am very pleased to inaugurate the Center for Artificial Intelligence, which will be a site for the development of functional technological innovations and problem solving, “he said in Twitter after the inauguration.
“Artificial intelligence can be an engine of productivity and economic growth. In this current period where we are taking great strides to balance the macroeconomic environment, including through the introduction of technology, I would also like to take this opportunity to warn all Ethiopians locally and abroad not to be tools of money laundering. In the midst of a period of currency exchange, I call on the entire Ethiopian-loving diaspora to use the proper remittance channels to ensure that you are not a channel for illicit currency transfers, ”he said.
