The Chairman of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemns the killing of innocent civilians in the western wollega area of the Oromia regional states.
In the statement of the President of the Commission of the African Union, the Hon. Mr. Moussa Faki Mahamat, strongly condemns the killing of innocent civilians following intercommunal violence in Ethiopia.
The President expresses his condolences to the families of the victims and wishes the speedy recovery of the injured. Call on the national authorities to ensure that the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are found and held accountable.
The President, noting the increase in inter-community violence, calls on all stakeholders to refrain from inflammatory rhetoric and work to reduce tensions in the country. Furthermore, it encourages political actors to participate in an inclusive national dialogue and build a national consensus around key issues and emphasizes that failure to do so can have serious impacts not only on the country but on the region as a whole.
The President reaffirms the support of the African Union for the reforms initiated by the Government and stands ready to assist Ethiopia in its efforts to promote peace and stability in the country.
