Ethiopia: Call to avoid delays in road construction

In order to complete several highway construction projects in the metropolis on time, particular attention must be paid to the causes of delay in such activities, as noted when Deputy Mayor Adanech Abebe, Finance Minister Ahmed Shede and Governor of the National Bank, Dr. Yinager Dessie, I visited several highway projects here yesterday. At the event, the deputy mayor said the city will soon complete the road projects that are being built to ease traffic congestion and create adequate road coverage for Addis Ababa.

“Highway projects, particularly those in commercial import and export corridors and in areas of great economic importance, would be monitored and budget support would be provided to complete as soon as possible.

Yesterday’s visit by the Deputy Mayor with the Minister of Finance, Ahmed Shede, and the Governor of the National Bank, Dr. Yinager Dessie, aimed to seek funds from various stakeholders for the implementation of the projects.

The director general of the Addis Ababa City Highway Authority, engineer Moges Tibebu, for his part, said that the road projects under construction by various contractors have a total length of 34 km and efforts are being made to complete the roads in this year.

Among the road projects visited are Kaliti Ring Road Square – Akaki Bridge – Tulu Dimtu Square, Kaliti Ring Road Square – Bulbula – Kilinto Square, Bulbula Kaba Medhanialem Entrance and Bole Michael Square Above and Bottom – Bulbula Kaba Entrance and Kaliti Sewer Projects.
