Epic Games Store sees huge growth in 2020

The Epic Games Store has released their statistics for 2020, showing great growth for the online store.

The digital store, owned by Fortnite publisher Epic Games, has adopted an aggressive strategy in recent years to compete with Steam.

This includes securing timed exclusive distribution agreements with developers and offering free weekly games to users.

And this strategy seems to be paying off.

According to Epic Games, daily active users increased by 192% in 2020.

“Daily active users increased 192% to 31.3 million daily active players, with a peak CCU of 13 million concurrent players this year (up from 7 million in 2019),” Epic Games said in a statement.

“Monthly active users in December increased from 32 million in 2019 to 56 million.”

The publisher said that purchases have also increased, with players spending more than $ 700 million on games, excluding coupons.

Gamers also spent 70% more hours playing games on the platform compared to 2019.

The editor highlighted notable features that had been added to the storefront to improve the user experience. This includes the wish list feature.

Of course, the increase in the game catalog did not hurt. Between 2019 and 2020, the Epic Games Store increased its catalog from 190 to 471 games.

A total of 103 different titles were also included in the weekly free game promotions.

In December, Epic increased this with daily free games as part of their holiday promotion.

Most popular title on Epic Games

Epic Games also rounded up their most popular titles in 2020.

Unsurprisingly, the list included Rocket League, which launched for free in the store in 2020.

While many of the titles on the list are free or featured in weekly free game promotions, there are new paid releases as well.

You can see a rundown of the most popular titles on the Epic Games Store below:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

  • Godfall
  • Borderlands 3
