The company has built a state-of-the-art sound studio in Los Angeles to host events.
Fortnite maker Epic Games has unveiled its plans to host more live music events on its popular Battle Royale game.
In a blog post on its website, the firm revealed that it will host performances in its hit game for the next three weeks.
The company has even built a new Party Royale Spotlight soundstage studio in Los Angeles where artists will be able to record these events.
The first act to be featured is singer, rapper and songwriter Dominic Fike, who will perform from the new studio on Saturday, September 12 at 5 pm ET.
There are two more concerts scheduled for September 19 and 26, but no details have been released on who will play on these dates.
The concerts will continue with a series of musical acts organized in Fortnite. In February 2019, an in-game concert by DJ Marshmello drew a crowd of 10.7 million concurrent users to the success of Battle Royale.
In April of this year, all five Travis Scott shows in Fortnite reached 27.7 million unique players.
The music industry has been hit hard by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The bands have been unable to perform or tour due to social distancing regulations, and as a result the sector lost more than 50% of its revenue.
Some in the music business have speculated that video games could play a role in the future of live music.
Of course, Epic’s relationship with the music industry is not entirely pleasant. The Fortnite signature has been taken to court multiple times by artists who claim the company is benefiting from their dance moves through in-game gestures.
