SUVs are very popular with a growing number of customers, offering good levels of visibility, safety and comfort. The SUV sector is the most popular vehicle segment in the US and China, and the market shares of Europe and Germany are also continuously increasing. With the ID.4, Volkswagen is offering a fully electric SUV for the first time, offering the space, flexibility and other benefits that customers appreciate in SUVs.

The ID.4’s battery stores up to 77 kWh of energy (net) and allows ranges of up to 520 km (WLTP). It is installed under the passenger compartment, which guarantees a low center of gravity. The electric motor, located on the rear axle, generates 150 kW (204 hp), enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 km / h. Thanks to the strong rear-wheel drive grip and its 21 centimeters of ground clearance, the E-SUV also performs well on smooth off-road terrain.
The vehicle has a dynamic look with athletic proportions and an ultra-modern look with very good aerodynamics: a coefficient of drag of 0.28. The basic version has headlights that are almost fully equipped with light-emitting diodes, while the rear light clusters have been fully equipped with this technology. With the top-of-the-range version, the interactive IQ.Light LED matrix headlights are even more progressive, with rotating lens modules that generate an intelligently controlled main light. These headlights have been combined with the new 3D LED taillight clusters. Its rear light is particularly homogeneous and lights up a deep red.
The 4.58 meter long ID.4 uses Volkswagen’s Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) architecture. It divides occupant space and technology in a whole new way in favor of passengers. The space available inside the vehicle is at the level of conventional SUVs in the next category. Depending on the position of the rear seat back, the boot has a capacity of 543 to 1,575 liters. The range of equipment for the ID.4 includes an electrically operated boot lid, a roof railing and a towing bracket.
Together with the DNI. Volkswagen launches a complete package for the convenient, connected and sustainable charging of electric cars under the name We Charge. The ID.4 can be recharged with direct current to cover the next 320 km (according to WLTP, at 125 kW) at a DC fast charging station in about 30 minutes.
In parallel, Volkswagen is establishing a sustainable electric mobility ecosystem around ID. Models. ID.4 customers will receive a vehicle that has been produced with a carbon neutral balance. And if it is charged with sustainably produced electricity, like Volkswagen Naturstrom, it will also remain carbon neutral on the road.
Following on from the compact ID.32, the ID.4 SUV is the second all-electric model, enabling Volkswagen to compete in the booming compact SUV segment of the world. The ID.4 will gradually become a global electric powered car with plans to produce and sell the E-SUV not only in Europe, but also in China and then the US Overall, the Volkswagen brand will invest eleven thousand million euros in electric mobility by 2024 as part of the Transform 2025+ strategy.
