Egypt’s Civil Aviation Ministry announced on Friday that four flights departed for Washington, Moscow and Kiev to return to Egyptians who were stranded there as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
Sources at the ministry confirmed that two of the flights, operated by EgyptAir and Air Cairo, departed from Cairo International Airport to Washington and Moscow airports, while two flights went to Kiev.
According to sources, these four flights will arrive at the Marsa Alam International Airport. Returnees will be quarantined for 14 days as part of the Ministry of Health guidelines to ensure they are virus free.
On Friday, the Marsa Alam airport received six flights carrying Egyptians stranded in the US. The US, Russia, Ukraine, Ethiopia, Kenya and Nigeria after the suspension of international air traffic, as part of special charter flights that bring stranded Egyptians home.
Health Ministry officials said the returnees underwent a medical examination upon arrival and were quarantined at hotels in Marsa Alam.
Both the passengers and the crew of the aircraft were subjected to quarantine procedures, while samples were taken and sent to laboratories to ensure that the passengers were free of infection.
So far, the Civil Aviation Ministry has organized a total of 20 stranded returning Egyptian flights to Marsa Alam airport.
These charter flights are scheduled to continue until May 5.
In recent days, Marsa Alam International Airport received flights from Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Algeria, Bahrain, Germany, the Netherlands, Serbia, Thailand and Kuala Lumpur, received by Marsa Alam Airport authorities, Red Sea agencies and medical equipment.
