A new study also found that chili pepper consumption can help increase lifespan and reduce the risks of death or cancer related to heart disease. It was a preliminary investigation, present at the Scientific Sessions 2020, organized by the American Heart Association.
The researchers conducted a survey of 4,729 studies from five leading health databases around the world. They compared the results of people who ate chili peppers with those who rarely or never ate chili peppers. The result found that there was a reduction in the death rate in people who ate chili peppers. The findings stated:
- 26 percent relative reduction in cardiovascular mortality;
- 23 percent relative reduction in cancer mortality;
- 25 percent relative reduction in all-cause mortality.
“We were surprised to find that in these previously published studies, regular chili consumption was associated with an overall reduction in the risk of all causes, CVD, and cancer mortality. It highlights that dietary factors may play an important role in overall health.” said lead author Bo Xu, MD, a cardiologist at the Heart, Vascular and Thoracic Institute at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
