During a phone call with Pompeo on Monday, they also discussed developments in Ethiopia and the need for a peaceful solution to the conflict in a way that achieves regional peace and improves security in the region, the Xinhua news agency said, citing the council in a statement. statement.

On October 23, United States President Donald Trump announced his intention to remove Sudan from the list of state sponsors of terrorism once the African country deposits a settlement amount of $ 335 million for victims of the twin 1998 bombings at the two US embassies in Tanzania and Kenya.

The decision was due to take effect on December 11.

Sudan had been listed as a state sponsor of terrorism since 1993. The other three nations on the list are Iran, North Korea and Syria, according to a CNN report.

Due to the designation, Sudan faces a series of restrictions including a ban on defense exports and sales and restrictions on foreign aid from the United States.
