Destiny 2 is about to undergo some big changes this year. Beyond Light, the game’s next major expansion, is coming out and Bungie is making big changes to Destiny 2 content. Many older maps and missions are being removed. Due to all of these changes, Destiny 2 players will have to redownload the game in its entirety when Beyond Light arrives.
In the developer’s latest weekly post, Bungie announced that Destiny 2 players on all platforms will need to redownload the game when Beyond Light launches. However, the advantage is that the game will now be 30-40 percent smaller on its SSD.
“Beyond Light will be a new full download on all platforms; We know this will be painful for those with slower or metered internet connections, and we’re sorry. To help mitigate this, we plan to enable Beyond Light preloads sometime during the night of November 9 PST, which should give everyone at least 10 hours to download before the doors open. “
“Destiny 2 install size is reduced by 30-40%: Due to a combination of unused or replaced content selection, install size optimizations, and moving some of the content to the Destiny Content Vault, the install size Destiny 2 will be reduced to between 59 and 71 GB (depending on platform), a reduction of 30 to 40%. These improvements should also help us better control the size of the facility for years to come. “
Destiny 2: Beyond Light will arrive on November 10. You can learn more about exactly what content is being cut HERE.
KitGuru says: Since Destiny 2 is shrinking in install size, this download shouldn’t be that big of a problem. Still, it can be frustrating to deal with if you’re trying to jump to new content ASAP.
