We are just under two weeks away from the launch of Sony’s PlayStation 5, and if you’re one of the lucky few who managed to successfully pre-order one, I have two things to say: first, I hate you, and second, you should watch this Extended game trailer for Demon souls.
The action RPG remake from PlayStation Studios and Bluepoint Games is one of the launch titles for the PS5 and, true to its dark fantasy setting, it looks hideously beautiful. We see a handful of basic enemies in the trailer, all dispatched with satisfyingly visceral slash-and-cut combat and even a few blasts of glittery magic. But if you ever played a From Software title (anything in the Souls gothic horror series or spiritual sequel Bloodborne, my personal favorite), you know the real attractions here are the bosses, and we get to see some of them. I confess that I have not played the original Demon soulsso all these creatures are brand new to me, but they look amazing. There’s a huge armored spider-scorpion thing that shoots fireballs and cobwebs and drenches an entire chamber in burning oil, and folks, that sentence is so metallic that I have trouble staying still as I type it. We can also see a small fight with a huge balrog-type demon, who jumps out of literal hell to shake hands with our protagonist. Plus there’s a montage of some really mind-blowing bosses, including an absolutely huge dragon that I can’t wait to get killed for.
Demon souls It is not for the faint of heart. Its rouge-like progression system means that it will die early, die often, and lose all of its current progress each time. Every enemy you encounter, even the first one, could easily smoke you up, but that makes it even more satisfying once you’ve upgraded enough to take down one of the game’s fearsome bosses. Take a look at the trailer for the game below and accept the expectations. Demon souls launches November 12 alongside the PS5.
