November 8, 2020 (Ezega.com) – Ethiopian defense force troops are advancing towards Mekele, the capital of the regional state of Tigray, a day after they took control of several areas in western Tigray, the General Berhanu Jula, chief of staff of the National Defense Force has said.
Berhanu told local media that the national defense force together with the forces from the neighboring Amhara region completely controlled Dansha, Baeker and other places that stretched from Shiraro to Shire towns in the Tigray region.
The chief of staff said that the federal force completely destroyed the heavy weapons held by the TPLF forces and has continued to dismantle enemy traps up to the city of Mekele.
Berhanu is confident that the war between the federal government and the “rebel group” in the Tigray region will soon end and the members of the TPLF clique who committed treason against Ethiopia will face justice.
The national defense force has seized a number of towns and districts in the western Tigray region since it launched an offensive two days ago, said Ethiopian Defense Forces director of indoctrination, Major General Mohammed Tessema.
Backed by the task force and the Amhara militia, the federal army took control of Maidali Dansha, Baeker, Lugid, the Humera airport and the Humera-Sudan highway, he said.
The federal force took control of several areas on Saturday, including the Qeraqer and Tsegede districts, which were the disputed areas between the regional states of Tigray and Amhara.
The Amhara task force and militia raised the flags of their region in the Welqait Tsegede and Telemet districts, where they were warmly welcomed.
Mohammed said that federal troops completely controlled strategic areas, including the Humera airport, a military camp in Dansha district and the Humera-Sudan highway.
The Major General has compared the rebel group’s current condition to a vulture, whose wing is badly wounded.
Residents of the Tigray region have welcomed and shown solidarity to the defense force, Mohammed said, adding that a large number of soldiers from the Tigray special force defected from the TPLF and joined the national defense force.
According to the Major General, several members of the TPLF fighters are under 18 years old and this shows that the TPLF leaders do not care about the lives of their fellow citizens.
Meanwhile, the National Bank of Ethiopia announced that TPLF forces have robbed commercial banks in the Tigray region.
The bank in a statement called on the people of the region to stop the theft and announced the suspension of banking services in the region.
