dbrand shows you don’t need a MagSafe case to charge MagSafe

When Apple announced their new MagSafe cases, many wondered if they would need to get a “MagSafe compatible” case in order to charge the new line of iPhone 12 with the new MagSafe charger. Apple built the MagSafe magnet in its own case, as did the Otterbox, so people wondered if it could still be charged with a non-MagSafe case.

Turns out enough people asked popular case and case maker dbrand, so they posted a video to demonstrate that the new MagSafe charger does, in fact, connect and charge via its Grip case. The video shows someone throwing the MagSafe charger into the back of the Grip case, which plugs in and begins charging immediately. While we can all wonder how many tries they had to make to make that happen smoothly, it does show that some cases could work with the MagSafe charger without having MagSafe technology built into the case.

Of course this is just one instance showing compatibility and results may vary between case material and thickness. To make sure it works, more companies are sure to launch cases that incorporate MagSafe.

In addition to demonstrating that your Grip Case works with the new MagSafe charger, dbrand has also released a line of skins for the new charger, which you can check out on the dbrand website.
