David Beckham earns more playing a football computer game than kicking a real ball.
The retired star won a £ 40 million three-year deal to appear in the FIFA 21 game on PlayStation and XBox.
A source said: “The creators of FIFA EA Sports offered him £ 30 million over three years, but he managed to get a better deal.
“It’s a great addition to the Beckham brand and the easiest money he’s ever made.”
Beckham, 45, appears as a special player known as an “icon.”
And the United States soccer team that he owns, Inter Miami, will be in attendance.
The former England captain hung up his boots in 2013 following turns at Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Paris St Germain and LA Galaxy.
Becks, nicknamed Goldenballs by his wife Victoria, was one of the game’s main winners, depositing £ 100,000 a week at Old Trafford and landing a £ 25 million five-year contract on his move to the LA Galaxy.
Becks said on Instagram: “I am very proud to return to EA Sports with my FIFA 21 Beckham Edition cover.
“I’m excited to be back on the court as an icon with some of my former teammates!”
The £ 60 game came out last month. FIFA 12 is the best-selling sports game of all time with 3.2 million sold, generating £ 140 million in its first week.
Megabucks soccer game deals
Great computer game deals are just a regular business for soccer icons.
Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are some of the other big names to star in FIFA titles.
Former England ace Rooney holds the record for being on the most covers, every game from FIFA 06 to FIFA 12.
Ronaldo pocketed a seven-figure sum to be a FIFA cover star.
And in 2016, it was revealed that he charged a Saudi Arabian company £ 920,000 for half a day, including a photoshoot and the signing of five T-shirts.
Nike also paid Ronaldo a billion dollars for a lifetime contract, while the gasoline giant Castrol gave him a two-year contract for 8.2 million pounds.
Other stars who have taken advantage of the games include film director Spike Lee, Canadian actress Ellen Page, and rapper Travis Scott, who appeared in the combat video game Fortnite.
The celebrities appeared in an online battle that drew a record 12 million viewers around the world.
