MADISON, Wis. – Dane County Clerk Scott McDonell tweeted Saturday night that the count of the county’s presidential election ended after eight days.

McDonell tweeted on Friday that he expected the count to end sometime this weekend, likely Sunday.

Dane and Milwaukee counties began their counting processes last Friday and took Thanksgiving off; Milwaukee finished its count on Friday night. Both have also seen their processes slowed down by the multiple challenges of the Trump campaign.

McDonell tweeted around 4:30 pm Saturday that there was only one “last precinct” and said “there was still a lot to do but very close.

Some of the Trump campaign’s key objections include around 19,000 absentee ballots confined indefinitely, as well as the roughly 16,000 absentee ballots returned during Madison’s Democracy in the Park event. UW-Madison political science professor Ken Mayer says a long-standing legal principle could hamper any serious challenge in which voters follow existing election law.

President-elect Joe Biden’s lead increased by 132 votes after Milwaukee County election officials counted more than 450,000 votes.

The entire counting process has been opened to the public and streamed live online.
